Day 30 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl ElleWow, hard to believe that Kaye and I have been blogging 30 days straight. Don’t think we’ll be doing this again anytime soon. The purpose of this experiment was to find out whether consistent posting would bring in traffic via the search engines. In other words, if we write it will they come?
The answer appears to be yes, to a certain degree. In our brief update, we found that yes, traffic increased. But we appear to be getting greater amounts of traffic via Kaye’s social networking on the web with other Cassidy fans. Since then, it appears that search engine traffic continues to increase, but the bulk of our traffic seems to be referral traffic from other blogs and sites. In a few days, we will put together our findings. Hopefully, this will help you and us as we go further into the marketing of our site.
One thing we did learn, if you have to blog every other day, content can be hard to come by. Kaye and I had previously talked about how easy it was to find stuff to blog about. You really can blog about just about anything that happens: issues come up with our kids, in our politics, etc., every day, and we have opinions. But we do strive to be more than just an opinion or an “about me” blog. We want to entertain and inform. That means research and putting together information from various sources, and that takes time, time you may not have as a full-time working parent.
Other lessons learned? David Cassidy people are dedicated and his appeal is strong across our borders and across the pond. Even sexy Gilles Marini can not hold a candle to a Cassidy fan’s love of the Cassidy. Jimmy Kimmel does not exist in England, but the Brits would love him. Shirley Jones is almost as bawdy as Cloris Leachman – that outtake Kaye provided did not show how far Leachman will go for a laugh. And health care while more accessible in other countries, is still a complicated animal abroad as well.
And what does the future hold for staingirlz.com? Kaye and I have so many interests, but we think we’ll be narrowing it down for a while. When we first began our venture we had envisioned helping The Girl with the Shelf TM. Stores seem to cater to easy to fit women, who are sizes 0-8, but the rest of us have to hunt around for the perfect items. We will be blogging about how staingirlz can look good, and we are also looking forward to putting together a store where we sell fun fashion accessories that you may not find elsewhere as well as garments that make the staingirl look chic and stylish, Kaye has also suggested a site for fans of old-time icons. We welcome input from you on both ventures.
And for those of you just discovering Jimmy Kimmel, here’s a follow-up video with Matt Damon:
Day 29 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl KayeOh!!!! I can’t believe this is my last post here on Staingirlz.com about David. It has been such great fun for me!!! Thank you so much for joining me. I will be creating a new blog to post those new things I come across that I want to share, but probably not for a week or two at least. Elle and I also have to focus on our chosen niche for Staingirlz. First of all, here is something for Elle to chew on (thank you, thank you, Daydreaming David!!!!). Day 28 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl ElleI decided to cheat yet again. Well, it is day 28 of our 30-day blogging challenge, and it’s getting harder and harder to post on such a regular basis. Where would I be without my staingirl, Kaye? And this cheat actually comes from her. I found this in my mailbox, and we both believe it is extremely important.

I hope you can concentrate on whatever it is you need to do today after watching this. Does anyone know what 0:34 is from? Thank you PeacenikChick of YouTube: Baby, can’t you see? Day 26 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl ElleToday I’m going to cheat a little. I’m running a little behind and I think the message attached below is important. I have been stunned by what the banks get away with regard to various fees. Remember my warning on giving gift cards? Well, I received this email from the Consumers Union, and I think it carries an important message regarding credit card fees. It’s also a call to action. Please read below:
It was unbelievable the first time the credit card companies jacked up our interest rates, doubled minimum payments and tacked on huge fees to try and beat a new February law that will end many of their abusive ways.
Now, they’re at it again, and getting even more creative — but with your help, we can stop them cold! Thanks to a huge outcry from American cardholders, the House just passed a bill to freeze interest rate hikes on your card balances, and give you new protections starting Dec. 1 — just in time for the holiday season. Now, we need the Senate to do the same! Email your senators right now to stop the rate increases – we can’t afford to wait. This continued attack on your wallet is no accident. A major credit card reform law goes into effect in February. The card companies begged Congress to delay its implementation so that they could “update their systems” to comply with the new law.
But instead, they’ve spent the time hitting you with new tricks — like a fee for paying off card balances each month. Or variable rate cards that only “vary” if interest rates increase, but don’t give you the full break if interest rates drop in your favor. If the companies can retool their computers to accommodate these tricks, there’s no reason they can’t abide by the new rules right now. After the recent bipartisan House vote, we have real momentum to stop these abuses. Now the Senate must hear that we can’t afford the credit card company tactics, especially with the holidays approaching. Tell your Senators to stop the rate increases and implement reforms NOW! After you e-mail the Senate, please forward this to anyone you know who is fed up with these tactics. We have immense power when we band together — let’s put the pressure on now! Sincerely, Day 25 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl KayeGood day, David Cassidy fans!!! I can’t wait for you to see this video I found!!! Even if you’ve seen it before, it’s worth watching over and over again. Lots of gorgeous pictures and video clips of David then and now singin’ and jammin’ on the guitar, all timed to David’s “now”, energetic live version of “I Saw Her Standing There.” OMG!!! I love how the “now” David plays the guitar and sings in this video. Him playing that guitar “stuck” to those groovin’ hips is driving me wild!!!! To borrow British Fan’s expression, only I mean this in terms of ecstasy, I want to scream!!!!!!!! He also gets another “Rear of the Year” award in this video. Public Health Alert: I feel a lust fest comin’ on
Day 24 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl ElleBlack Friday is around the corner, and so are the fun and headaches of gift giving. Does Uncle Bart want another tie? What size is Elle – you know how she fluctuates. Well, in recent years, we’ve been picking up gift cards. If you know Aunt Myrtle likes books, she gets a gift card from Books a Million or Barnes & Noble. Uncle Bubba may get one from Beer of the Month Club. Not sure what your loved one is into? Just get a general mall gift card, or better yet one from American Express.
Better make sure that you don’t give a card to Harry, who never gets round to taking care of anything. Gift card sellers fail to disclose that the issuer may not honor the gift cards after a certain period of time. Or there may be a monthly inactivity fee after 6-12 months, which drastically reduces the value of the card by the time Harry gets round to using it. Seriously?
Help is on the way thanks to the Credit Card act of 2009; however the gift card provisions will not go into effect in time for this holiday season. After August 2010, the gift cards will be required to remain active for five years after activation and disclose any expiration date. Issuers may not impose an inactivity fee unless there has been 12 months of inactivity and any such fees must be disclosed.
In the meantime, check out this gift card buying guide put out by the Consumer Federation of America to help you with the gift card. Bankrate.com has done most of the legwork for you by putting together the results of its 2009 gift card survey
Happy shopping holidays! Keep us posted if you have additional information that will help the savvy shopper.
Day 23 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl KayeAt the beginning of this 30-day Blogging Challenge, Elle had seriously questioned David Cassidy’s blog-worthiness. But in David Cassidy? Try Real Man Gilles Marini, she has thrown down the gauntlet, shamelessly suggesting that the young version of David may not be have been worthy of holding a man card!!! Girlyman???? I thought it would be educational to do a little comparison. First, here is a video of Rod Stewart in 1976 performing Maggie May live (thank you worthor on YouTube): And here is a video of David doing his world tour in 1974 with the audio of him performing Mae live (this is the first video I posted of David in David Cassidy: My New Obsession): Bali Ha’I / Mae by keithyoong on YouTube: Now, I ask you: Which one looks more like a girlyman?
Day 22 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl ElleOkay, I have to admit it. I’m torn! I’m referring to Sarah Palin’s new book: Going Rogue. On the one hand, I really think she has more than exceeded her 15 minutes of fame and I don’t want to add it. Also, I don’t care what they say, I’m pretty darned sure Sen. John McCain selected her at the last minute without vetting. He thought he could lure conservatives as well as females who were angry at then Senator Barack Obama for not selecting Sen. Hillary Clinton as his running mate. As if! Anyone knows that Palin is the polar opposite of Sen. Clinton, and not just because Clinton graduated from Yale Law School and had more experience under her belt than waving at Russia from her back door. Their ideologies are completely different.
But now that we averted that near encounter with Palin only a banana peel away from the presidency, I guess I can be a little more relaxed about it. Personally, I was hoping for a reality show. Sarah Palin has that folksy charm. She’s kind of an adventure girl, hunting from a helicopter and helping her husband in his commercial fishing venture. She has the daughter’s baby daddy drama. We know that with a little help from someone else’s money, she has good taste in clothes. And face it, as long as she’s not running the world, she looks like she can be a lot of fun.
And I am oh so curious. I am dying to read about her take on the McCain campaign’s handlers. Reports are that she slams them for muzzling her instead of allowing her to charm the constitutuents, and for sending an unexpected $50,000.00 bill representing the campaign’s expense in vetting her. Why should she pay that outrageous sum for the inefficient vetting job?
We’ve heard she also has it in good for the media and particularly, Katie Couric. Anyone remember Katie asking her about her foreign affairs experience and the economic bailout?
Here’s my dilemma: I really think it makes for a fascinating book. It should be an interesting take on campaigning in America, as well as the inner workings of a mind we had difficulty understanding during the campaign. Palin is a woman who galvanized the Republican Party, while likely being a major contributor to the defeat of the McCain campaign. But at the same time, if I buy her book am I contributing to her appeal, which I do not fully understand? Am I prolonging and expanding the mystique that allows her to weigh in on national and international issues that she does not always seem to fully understand? Am I rewarding the rogue child?
Day 21 of the 30-day Blogging ChallengeBy Staingirl KayeAnd the challenge continues, not just to keep blogging every day, but also in questioning my chosen blog topic: David Cassidy’s sex appeal. In a comment to Elle’s David Cassidy? Try Real Man Gilles Marini post, she claimed that David Cassidy’s “then” voice never “did float her boat.” Seriously? She also said that her “formative years were spent drooling over an older man, Rod Stewart.” British Fan very helpfully suggested that if she liked the “smoky vocals” of Rod Stewart, perhaps she’d like David’s Tomorrow (thank you British Fan!). Of course this video affords lots of great pictures of David “then”. So what do you think Elle? Thanks to SumerKis38 on YouTube once again:
