Day 9 of the 30-day Blogging Challenge
By Staingirl Kaye
ITILY. What? That’s what I first thought when I saw this acronym used in conjunction with David Cassidy. To a seasoned fan, that’s a sure marker for one who is NOT a Partridge Family or David Cassidy fan. Well, obviously, I’ve since learned it is none other than the Partridge Family anthem. (Note to Elle’s offspring, your assignment in this David Cassidy lesson is to please leave a comment letting me know that you’ve solved this acronym. I want to make sure you’re paying attention and learning.
)
What made me want to post this today is because Elle posted about Oprah yesterday
and David Cassidy performed ITILY on Oprah in 2008. For PF and DC fans alike, it was a heartwarming performance. The audience, a bit more mature now as well, has managed to restrain themselves somewhat but they’re still pretty enthusiastic about the whole thing. I wasn’t able to embed this video so I provided a link to it at the end of this post.
But first I wanted you to see a very young David “then”, even before the shag, lip syncing this song (thanks to fritz5112). He’s adorable to say the least:
And now for the Oprah version live, wearing the same colors? Interesting. He may look a bit different, but he still knows how to charm his audience.

David hates “Then”.

Hi Marilyn!!! Thanks for visiting!! Yeah, it does appear that he can’t or won’t appreciate “then” or the “then” fans. I am a fairly new fan and it saddens me. I’ve seen the site, and … I still want to be able to enjoy what I can. It doesn’t matter to me that much that he doesn’t want to be remembered as “then”; I’ll think of him in whichever way pleases me!!
I think it’ll be interesting to see how his next concert goes. I’ve never gone to one and I’m not sure that I ever will. But for now, I can still gush over all the images of his younger self. That’s what I plan to continue to blog about, so please come back if you want a good dose of the “then” David tonic.
That is one seriously cute teen-idol-to-be. Hearing the original makes me realize all the more how sad those remakes are. You can never recapture the innocence in those vocals. By innocence, I mean he had no clue what type of fame was about to engulf him and he sang that song without any pretension. And let’s not forget that he got it right on the first try. Not bad for an amateur. Catchy tune + sincere vocals = instant classic. I’d love to know where this clip comes from. Thanks for sharing, Kaye.
DD
Isn’t he adorable here? I’ve watched this clip so many times because it captures his innocence (well his supposed innocence). If he could have just inserted the name Karen into the song, that would have been just wonderful.
Hi Daydreaming David! Do you think David initially knew how much singing talent he had? Yes, it is astonishing to think of his complete innocence of the enormous fame he would achieve in just a few short months!
I didn’t know it only took one try for him to nail this originally!!! And this is his very first recording, isn’t it? That is phenomenal! His alluring singing talent is evident even then. I haven’t heard all the remakes, but compared to those I have heard, this one is easily my favorite.
I have a question into fritz5112 asking for the origin of this video. Hopefully I’ll have an answer soon.
Thanks again DD, for the information and insights!!
Kaye
Hi British Fan, I “resemble” that wish.
LOL!!!
Thanks again for commenting!!!
Kaye
I don’t know exactly where the video ITILY comes from but it is from the year 1971.I have it on dvd.A friend of mine sent it to me a while back. Also from that same show(wish I knew what it was),David sings “I can feel your heartbeat”.This video was on YouTube, because I’ve seen it,but it isn’t there anymore.:-( Hope that helps a bit.
Thank you Clodyne!! I have not heard back with an answer so I appreciate your input. I saw that too – the “I Can Feel Your Heartbeat” video. I was so thrilled when I found it because for some reason, I had never seen it in the first couple months of seeking everything David. Whereas this ITILY video was probably the first one I watched. Then all of the sudden it was there, but then gone just as fast it seems.
Welcome Clodyne!!! I’m sure you will have seen everything I post here, but it’s still fun to ponder them. I actually learn a lot from all of you so this has been a good David education for me. LOL!! I’m sorry I can’t be more informative myself right now. Well, there is one thing that apparently I can inform on, just based on observation in pictures and videos of course, but of course, Elle’s kids read this blog so I can’t cover that here.
Hi Staingirl kaye!
Why do you think I have seen everything that you post here? Ok,I admit that I have a great dvds & audio collection on David, but I don’t have everything you know.LOL Would you beleive me if I told you that I didn’t have a thing on him 3 years ago? If you don’t call that an “obsession” I wonder what it is? LOL I have missed so many great things on him back in the 70’s that I am now catching up on what I missed. And I love every minute of it!
David is a great subject isn’t he? But since there are kids visiting this blog,I guess I shall restrain myself…or maybe someone could create another blog, but this one would be private.LOL
I’m always glad to help.
Good Morning Clodyne! I am astounded at what you have managed to collect in only three years, but to have also created your David Cassidy treasure trove website http://cassidyfan4ever.webs.com/ is amazing!! I like your new skin on your website!! You are very dedicated!! David IS a beautiful subject. Daydreaming David has aptly described him as the male version of Marilyn Monroe.
Most of what I have been able to view to date has largely been available to everyone on the web, so that’s why I say that fans like you who have been collecting pictures, videos, etc. of him for a while now have probably already seen what I would post. And that applies to new videos, etc., since I’m sure we subscribe to the same YouTube channels, have the same friends on MySpace, and read the same message boards. LOL!
There is so much out there about him that fans like you have collected and have generously made available to the rest of us. It seems like the supply is endless. But we are also aware that so much of his career has sadly not been recorded, like his early live performances and Blood Brothers.
Your idea about the “private” blog is actually what will probably happen if I want to continue blogging about him on a regular basis after this 30-day blogging challenge is over. If that is my intent, Elle is going to make me get another blog. LOL!!! But that would be good in the sense that we could discuss ANYTHING we wanted to.
I’ll still have to produce posts for this blog too, so I probably won’t be able to post about David on a regular basis. We’ll still have Daydreaming David’s blog too though.
Thanks again, Clodyne! Have a great day!!
Hi Kaye! Can I call you Kaye?? LOL Yees I met many fans from MySpace and YouTube and they helped me a lot with my collection on David.I like trading stuffs on David with other fans too.I already shared some of my collection with DaydreamingDavid.
About his early performances,I would give just about everything to see his early concerts.I’ve seen only some clips of them on YouTube and now I would like to see more of it.As for the musical “Blood Brothers”,I was lucky enough to received a copy of it on dvd last year.It was recorded by a fan.I also have “At the Copa”,and “EFX” & “Time” The last 2 are incomplete unforunately. But there were great to see.
Have a great day Kaye! Talk to you soon.
Of course you can call me Kaye, Clodyne! OMG, you have a copy of Blood Brothers???? Oh, one of these days I’d LOVE to see that, and all of them actually. That is GREAT to know that there are recordings of some of those live performances!!! TTYS!!!
