Day 30 of the 30-day Blogging Challenge
By Staingirl Elle
Wow, hard to believe that Kaye and I have been blogging 30 days straight. Don’t think we’ll be doing this again anytime soon. The purpose of this experiment was to find out whether consistent posting would bring in traffic via the search engines. In other words, if we write it will they come?
The answer appears to be yes, to a certain degree. In our brief update, we found that yes, traffic increased. But we appear to be getting greater amounts of traffic via Kaye’s social networking on the web with other Cassidy fans. Since then, it appears that search engine traffic continues to increase, but the bulk of our traffic seems to be referral traffic from other blogs and sites. In a few days, we will put together our findings. Hopefully, this will help you and us as we go further into the marketing of our site.
One thing we did learn, if you have to blog every other day, content can be hard to come by. Kaye and I had previously talked about how easy it was to find stuff to blog about. You really can blog about just about anything that happens: issues come up with our kids, in our politics, etc., every day, and we have opinions. But we do strive to be more than just an opinion or an “about me” blog. We want to entertain and inform. That means research and putting together information from various sources, and that takes time, time you may not have as a full-time working parent.
Other lessons learned? David Cassidy people are dedicated and his appeal is strong across our borders and across the pond. Even sexy Gilles Marini can not hold a candle to a Cassidy fan’s love of the Cassidy. Jimmy Kimmel does not exist in England, but the Brits would love him. Shirley Jones is almost as bawdy as Cloris Leachman – that outtake Kaye provided did not show how far Leachman will go for a laugh. And health care while more accessible in other countries, is still a complicated animal abroad as well.
And what does the future hold for staingirlz.com? Kaye and I have so many interests, but we think we’ll be narrowing it down for a while. When we first began our venture we had envisioned helping The Girl with the Shelf TM. Stores seem to cater to easy to fit women, who are sizes 0-8, but the rest of us have to hunt around for the perfect items. We will be blogging about how staingirlz can look good, and we are also looking forward to putting together a store where we sell fun fashion accessories that you may not find elsewhere as well as garments that make the staingirl look chic and stylish, Kaye has also suggested a site for fans of old-time icons. We welcome input from you on both ventures.
And for those of you just discovering Jimmy Kimmel, here’s a follow-up video with Matt Damon:

Hear hear about the Cassidy fans, Elle. LOL!!!
Hey, here is another of Cloris Leachman kissing the talk show host. Whew!!!!
Thankss again for the clips. I love those laugh out loud moments.
Good luck with the ventures. I think you’ve chosen a good niche. It’s hard to find stylish clothes as you get older. I’m thinking the jeans and T shirts aren’t going to work out for much longer. Why does your figure have to change so?!!!
How about smart trousers/pants for women around 5″2′ 5″3′? I find the petite sizes skim my ankles but all the other sizes are too long.
I like your other ideas.
You know you could get an international market as so many buy clothes/accessories on the internet. My son buys all his T shirts from America, Threadless.com, Chicago. He must be keeping them in business.
The old-time icons thing sounds good.

Good Morning, British Fan. Elle and I were just complaining about the trouser length problem yesterday. There’s a lot of room for improvement. That’s a great idea about the international market too. I know some who have done well with that.
Thanks for joining us!!! You’ve made it really fun!!!
Kaye
BF, it really annoys me that when we go to look for pants, our options are either super long with normal size, or super short at the petite section, and women’s petite is even worse. They assume that overweight women don’t want to wear heals – and they only carry black and brown.
BTW, thanks for the tip on international markets. I had assumed that the Europeans were too skinny to be interested – one positive stereotype (at least here). We’ll have to figure that one out.
Thank you both for a very enjoyable blogging fest. I’m amazed at how quickly these thirty days have gone by. Love your blogging ideas and ventures. I’ll be following you for sure.
MOST women are hard-to-fit. I’d estimate that barely 20% of the female population can buy off-the-rack clothes without needing any alterations. Finding undergarments that fit is a nightmare for most too. A while back, when I was getting really fed up trying to find pants that fit my wide hips and small waist, I’d envisioned a store that would cater to pear-shaped women. And then I thought of apple-shaped women who also have a hard time. I was going to open a store called “The Apple and The Pear” and offer wardrobe solutions for these two common “hard-to-fit” body shapes. It takes a while to get to the point that you realize that it’s CLOTHES that are the problem and not your body shape!!
As baby boomers, you are the biggest generation of the population and I’ve always envied your “can-do” attitude and power in numbers. Things in the marketplace WILL change due to your influence and purchasing power. Popular culture will probably still be very youth-oriented but older spokespeople and entertainers will start taking up more space and gain more respect.
Thanks for that hilarious clip. Never realized how hilarious Cloris Leachman was. With TV icons such as her leading the way, maybe the stereotype that sex for women stops at what is it now? fifty? (thanks to the likes of Sharon Stone and Susan Sarandon), will be busted.
By the way, this is what America’s most powerful female boomer is up to now. Can you feel how limitless your possibilities are?
I wish you all the best!
DD
Thanks for that link, Daydreaming David!! I love your idea for the store “The Apple and the Pear”. Very clever. I think you are right that most women are hard to fit in some way.
Cloris Leachman looks really great!!! She’s an inspiration.
This journey should be fun and educational!!! You’re right, the possibilities seem to be limitless.
Thanks for contributing so thoughtfully and loyally, DD!! You have enriched this experience for us and our other few readers immensely!!!
Kaye
Your’re right that in some mainland European countries e.g. France the population is generally a healthy size.
In Britain we have an obesity problem and people are generally getting fatter. I’ll use American dress sizes here so the average British woman is now a size 12, with many being 14 or over. I’m roughtly 6/8 on top and 8 for pants. My waist is growing steady. I had a skinny shape when young and was size 4/6. I’ll never be that size again! It is frustrating. I’d say I was actually between the sizes, say a 7 if such a thing existed. On the plus side, middle age has given me boobs. I never had any before. LOL!
I think you’ll find that British women would be very interested in whatever you decide to market.
Thanks British Fan!! And thanks for contributing SO MUCH to our fun (and lust) here at Staingirlz!! LOL!! We couldn’t have done it without you!! It’s really been great!!!
Hugs!
