Your're right that in some mainland European countries e.g. France the population is generally a healthy size.
In Britain we have an obesity problem and people are generally getting fatter. I'll use American dress sizes here so the average British woman is now a size 12, with many being 14 or over. I'm roughtly 6/8 on top and 8 for pants. My waist is growing steady. I had a skinny shape when young and was size 4/6. I'll never be that size again! It is frustrating. I'd say I was actually between the sizes, say a 7 if such a thing existed. On the plus side, middle age has given me boobs. I never had any before. LOL!

I think you'll find that British women would be very interested in whatever you decide to market.

Thanks for that link, Daydreaming David!! I love your idea for the store "The Apple and the Pear". Very clever. I think you are right that most women are hard to fit in some way.

Cloris Leachman looks really great!!! She's an inspiration.

This journey should be fun and educational!!! You're right, the possibilities seem to be limitless.

Thanks for contributing so thoughtfully and loyally, DD!! You have enriched this experience for us and our other few readers immensely!!!

Thank you both for a very enjoyable blogging fest. I'm amazed at how quickly these thirty days have gone by. Love your blogging ideas and ventures. I'll be following you for sure.

MOST women are hard-to-fit. I'd estimate that barely 20% of the female population can buy off-the-rack clothes without needing any alterations. Finding undergarments that fit is a nightmare for most too. A while back, when I was getting really fed up trying to find pants that fit my wide hips and small waist, I'd envisioned a store that would cater to pear-shaped women. And then I thought of apple-shaped women who also have a hard time. I was going to open a store called "The Apple and The Pear" and offer wardrobe solutions for these two common "hard-to-fit" body shapes. It takes a while to get to the point that you realize that it's CLOTHES that are the problem and not your body shape!!

As baby boomers, you are the biggest generation of the population and I've always envied your "can-do" attitude and power in numbers. Things in the marketplace WILL change due to your influence and purchasing power. Popular culture will probably still be very youth-oriented but older spokespeople and entertainers will start taking up more space and gain more respect.

Thanks for that hilarious clip. Never realized how hilarious Cloris Leachman was. With TV icons such as her leading the way, maybe the stereotype that sex for women stops at what is it now? fifty? (thanks to the likes of Sharon Stone and Susan Sarandon), will be busted.

By the way, this is what America's most powerful female boomer is up to now. Can you feel how limitless your possibilities are?

I wish you all the best!

BF, it really annoys me that when we go to look for pants, our options are either super long with normal size, or super short at the petite section, and women's petite is even worse. They assume that overweight women don't want to wear heals - and they only carry black and brown.

BTW, thanks for the tip on international markets. I had assumed that the Europeans were too skinny to be interested - one positive stereotype (at least here). We'll have to figure that one out.

Good Morning, British Fan. Elle and I were just complaining about the trouser length problem yesterday. There's a lot of room for improvement. That's a great idea about the international market too. I know some who have done well with that.

Thanks for joining us!!! You've made it really fun!!!

Thankss again for the clips. I love those laugh out loud moments.

Good luck with the ventures. I think you've chosen a good niche. It's hard to find stylish clothes as you get older. I'm thinking the jeans and T shirts aren't going to work out for much longer. Why does your figure have to change so?!!!
How about smart trousers/pants for women around 5"2' 5"3'? I find the petite sizes skim my ankles but all the other sizes are too long.
I like your other ideas.

You know you could get an international market as so many buy clothes/accessories on the internet. My son buys all his T shirts from America, Threadless.com, Chicago. He must be keeping them in business.

The old-time icons thing sounds good.
