Staingirlz.com, For the Girl with a Shelf ™, was started by two forty-something working friends who have known each other since their kids were in preschool. It evolved out of a need for something fun and light in our lives and a way to make some additional income. Elle’s brother actually coined the term. He used to join Elle and her family for lunch on Saturdays. Inevitably, food or drippings would land on Elle’s “shelf” and he would tease Elle, calling her “Staingirl”. Kids and hubby would join in the mockery. Hence Staingirl Elle was born.
And from there she envisioned with the keen glint of ingenuity, fun, and humor in her eye the brandability of Staingirlz and the fun activities that could occur under this personality like blogging about local restaurants – “Was it stain worthy?” ™, “Three stains up” ™, etc. – weight loss, shopping, parenting, and other concerns that typically interest the Staingirl. She approached her friend Kaye, who shares the perspective of life as a Staingirl, with the idea of starting this type of blog. And here they are today, making this happen, and having a great time doing it.
Staingirl Elle is a dedicated mother of three (her kids snark at this suggestion) and long-suffering, loving wife (extra snarks from hubby). During the daytime she is a lawyer to generally wonderful clients, except for the occasional client who makes mothering a teen look easy. At night, she looks forward becoming the co-Oprah of the blogosphere, entertaining and informing other middle-aged women together with her cohort, Staingirl Kaye.
Staingirl Kaye is a devoted single mother of teenage twin boys, a cat, and sometimes her ex-husband. She is a software engineer in the aerospace industry by profession and in her spare time attempts to figure out how to set things up to accommodate THE WORLD that Elle wants (and in her delusional mind expects to get). Elle can figure out how to get stuff going more quickly than Kaye because Kaye approaches the project as if planes will come crashing down and her children will be abducted by aliens with any little misstep (lighten-up already!).
By now you’re probably starting to suspect that Elle is the fun and light personality of the two. Kaye tends to be very serious, and times boring, but Elle really knows how to lighten things up, including Kaye, thank goodness!!!! How’s that for yin and yang?
Staingirlz Kaye and Elle love surfing the internet and they know other middle-aged women do too. They noticed that there are relatively few middle-aged female bloggers out there. Most tend to be on the younger side with career blogs or mommy blogs. They will be blogging on anything and everything that concerns women “of a certain age.” They will discuss health issues, living on a budget during these tough economic times (although Staingirl Elle is still in denial), favorite products and books, and occasionally, parenting. Right now, their focus is on getting a website up and running and those trials and tribulations. So for those of who are also just beginning the blogging journey, they will share information and hope that you, their readers, will do the same.
