Great Support for the Girls when Running

When Staingirl Elle eats out, she invariably gets a stain on her shirt. It’s that darned shelf, always getting in the way! Well, Staingirl Elle needs to cut back on eating out and start exercising a lot more. Her sister suggested running a half-marathon with her – not too sure about that. But Staingirl Elle does need to get moving, and so began the latest quest for a sports bra that will hold the girls together and not let them slap her around.

I’ve tried holding my double-D’s in with so many types of sports bras. But invariably there is that uncomfortable bounce feeling. And you get to thinking that when you get old (which used to be forty-something, but we now know better), the girls will be slapping the knees if you don’t protect them. Then you have to run or do your aerobic workout with at least one hand crossed in front of your breasts to hold them in better – not good for form. Some women wear two sports bras – how comfortable is that? Eventually I found a couple of bras that were a little better, but I could never really run in them. Enter the Enell Sports Bra.

The Enell Sports Bra is the best bra I have ever used for minimizing bounce. Jumping up and down, you can see a minimal bounce, but you can’t feel it. It has a full back and thick shoulderstrap and rib cage band, all of which combine to provide the complete breast support I have been looking for. Better yet, there is no underwire to eventually break and dig in to the breasts. I have to add that it is the first non-underwire bra that I have ever found that holds the girls up properly. The material has a comfortable satiny feel.

I cannot tell a lie – some people think it’s attractive, but I would not call it sexy. The first time you try on the Enell Sports Bra, it can be a bit of a challenge as it requires tucking the girls in while hooking 11 eyelets in the front. However, after that first time it becomes easy, and many women are wearing the bra as a minimizer under their clothing.

One extra tip if you buy an Enell Sports bra: When I compared bra sizes, I found that I was in between sizes. I opted for the smaller size to for better support when running. However, if you are planning on doing lower impact aerobics, you may want to go with the next size up.

Enjoy running without that bounce. Now if only we could find a way to run without having to huff and puff!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Part II: Kaye, we don’t hate you, but we don’t hate the new Harry Potter movie either

STAINGIRL ELLE: Full disclosure – I have a hard time reading Harry Potter books. Yea, I know – blasphemy! Kaye doesn’t get it. But it took several tries before I finally finished the first Harry Potter book and that final effort lasted three weeks. Each time a new movie comes out I tell myself that I will read the book first. Of course, it never happens. I will say this much – I have always loved the movies. The characters are well-developed. The scenery is beautiful. The castle and animals transport you to another world. And it’s fun trying to keep up with the pace of the movies.

But not this time. With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we did not get a never-ending series of thrills, no transportation to another world. More importantly, Harry himself was a little lackluster. I’ve come to know Harry as a talented lad who has grown increasingly angry and somewhat disturbed. He was prone to outbursts and borderline self-destructive behavior. My understanding is that the book continues along that vein. However, in this latest movie, we don’t see any further development of his character, whether it be the continuation or progression of his anger, nor do we see a resolution of his anger or growth in character. I was surprised at his low frustration level when he tried to warn Dumbeldore and friends of Snape’s and Malfoy’s treachery. Instead Potter was a fairly mellow magician who still saves the day and occasionally follows young Malfoy around.

And I have to agree with Staingirl Kaye. The title of the movie is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NEITHER READ THE BOOK NOR SEEN THE MOVIE: There was some buildup of the Half-Blood Prince as Harry begins experimenting with the potions he found in a book which belonged to a mysterious Half-Blood Prince. These potions were incredibly potent, and eventually Potter found out they were dangerous. They also contained a hand written spell “for enemies”. So who is this Half-Blood Prince? What makes him a Half-Blood Prince? Whatever happened to him? If he is a prince, what is he a prince of? How and why did he come up with these potions? The audience grows excited to learn more about this prince who shares billing with Harry Potter. And all we got was a muttered “Oh, so you think you can use my own spells against me?” from Snape. And that was the end of that story line. We received no explanation of how Snape came to be known as a Half-Blood Prince or what it means.

Please don’t get me wrong. There were still some enjoyable spots. I always love watching Hermione and Ron doing their little love dance. Harry was cute as he started to develop interest in a girl. And let’s not forget he whose name cannot be spoken. The audience got to know young Tom Riddle, who would one day become Lord Voldemort. We learned how he came to Hogwarts, and that he was indeed already a twisted child. And it was great to see that Malfoy had a little depth to him – he was not all evil.

Overall, I disagree with my buddy, Staingirl Kaye. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince still managed to entertain. It just didn’t have the same edge that prior Harry Potter movies had. Let’s hope that the final two installments deliver more.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince : Go Ahead and Hate ME! I Almost Didn’t Like the New Harry Potter Movie!

I don’t want to admit it as an avid Harry Potter fan, but I almost disliked Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the first time I saw it! Part of the reason for this was that I absolutely LOVED the book. I LOVED IT!! For me, the experience of reading each new book in the series seemed to get better and better, each more thrilling than the one before. Yet I hardly felt any suspense at all while viewing this movie compared to watching the other Potter movies.

For instance, the revelation of Snape as the Half-Blood Prince was so feeble. That was such a big part of the complexity of the book yet it seemed to get lost for me in the movie. Hermione’s reaction to Harry’s success with the Half-Blood Prince’s Advanced Potions book was so great in the book version. In the book she was true to character, ethical and righteous every chance she got it seems, as her character has been cast on all the previous movies. I did not think she was given enough airtime on this subject to be true to character when compared to the other movies.

And what about the revelation that Snape was the one who told Voldemort about the prophecy. That was a HUGE revelation to me! Again, I felt Harry’s pain and hatred for Snape like never before. Yet this didn’t even make it into the movie.

Harry’s frustration over Dumbledore not listening to his urgent concerns about Malfoy was also almost negligent in the movie.

And there are many other such missing parts. I think I would have been satisfied if the thrill and character fix I was seeking had been met in at least parts of the plot. There seemed to be so much content, richness, and complexity left out of the movie, so much so that it lost almost all of the thrill of the story. I know the book was long, and maybe it would have been better to make two movies out of it like they are doing for the last book.

Because of this first reaction, I went to see the movie again. I did enjoy it more the second time, perhaps getting over some of my disappointment. I thought that most of the scenes were done well and I did feel the weight of enormous sadness at the end when Dumbledore died. But my original impressions hold.

Being an ardent fan, it WAS good to see all the beloved characters in again, even though I wish I could have experienced them more as I have come to know and love them. And of course, I will buy the DVD.
