Nothing like talking to a reporter, especially one from The New York Times, to give you a good kick in the pants. This is the first post of our blog Staingirlz.com.

Today, Mike Luo contacted me to continue his series on displaced workers. Several years ago I co-founded the now disbanded Professionals Network of Florida, a non-profit organization to help educate and support those who found themselves unemployed after 9/11. Mr. Luo was following up with the founding members to determine how we have done in our professional lives since that time. I was stunned and dismayed to find out that I was the only one to actually have increased my salary since that time. Apparently, Mr. Luo said this type of success is the exception, not the rule.

He asked me to provide advice for someone who is in the same situation in the current economic downturn. I emphasized job market research, setting and prioritzing goals, networking, and assessing and expanding skills. As an example of expanding skills, I then mentioned this great blog that Staingirl Elle and I were starting.

When Mike and I finished, I was so excited about the interview that I had to share this with Staingirl Elle. I had an interview for The New York Times! And I might be on the front page!! And I mentioned Staingirlz.com!!! And we aren’t live yet!!!! Oops. Staingirl Elle popped dinner into the oven, ditched the kids and hubby, and came running over.

And here we are. We’ve been talking about this and researching this for months, the attorney and the engineer. We actually read the Terms and Conditions of SEVERAL NAME HOSTS and DOMAIN HOSTS. (Ugh!)

Welcome to Staingirlz.com. Thank you, Mike! We’d still be talking and researching if it wasn’t for you. Here is more information about Mike Luo:
